The False Teacher Next Door Now Available on Amazon

Just last week I released my fifth book titled, The False Teacher Next Door: Biblical Separation in an Age of Unbiblical Unity (which can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/False-Teacher-Next-Door-Separation/dp/B0FZ35P921).

Available in both paperback and Kindle editions, this book is a verse-by-verse study through the entire book of Jude, explaining concepts like:

  • church discipline

  • theological triage

  • discernment

  • polemics

  • formal and functional apostasy

  • ecumenism

  • unity and division

  • individual vs. ecclesiastical separation

Although I didn’t begin realizing it until several years ago, this book represents, for me personally, the culmination of a ministry pattern loosely following that of the Apostle Paul. When you examine Paul’s ministry, you see essentially three phases. First, he would plant a church and build them up in the faith by preaching verse-by-verse through the Scriptures over the full counsel of God so that they would be equipped for their Christian life (cf. Acts 20:27, 2 Tim. 4:2, 1 Tim. 4:13). Reflecting that commitment, I wrote Expository Parenting to champion sequential exposition both in the church and in the home, as well as to rebuke topical preaching and other shallow, sub-standard forms of discipleship. Second, after departing the church he had planted, Paul would follow up with letters clarifying the Gospel to address theological errors that the local churches had fallen into (cf. 1 Cor. 15:1, Col. 1:28, Gal. 1:6). Along those lines, I wrote Greater Than Aaron: The Supremacy of Christ’s Limited Atonement, clarifying the glorious truth that everyone Christ died for will be with Him in heaven, while also rebuking the unbiblical and shallow Arminian doctrine of universal atonement. Third and finally, when it was time to conclude his ministry, the Apostle Paul warned churches and leaders to stay on guard because he knew that, in his absence, false teachers would try to hijack and destroy all he had labored for (cf. Acts 20:28-31, 2 Tim. 4:3-5). In like manner, I’ve written The False Teacher Next Door: Biblical Separation in an Age of Unbiblical Unity, identifying the ways that false teachers operate and providing the discernment to know what to do about it.

The book’s description is as follows:

History reveals that nominal Christians and worldly churchmen have often been more than happy to rid themselves of genuine believers. True Christians—specifically, those committed to doctrinal precision and holy living (both orthodoxy and orthopraxy)—are routinely viewed as a spiritual nuisance by those looking to cloak their carnality in the garb of Christianity. For that reason, God’s people have often faced rejection, ostracism, and exclusion.

Unfortunately, however, the opposite hasn’t always been true. Driven by misguided notions of unity and charity, genuine believers are often far too hesitant to distance themselves from those whose beliefs or behaviors stand in opposition to Christ. This hesitation is only compounded when it involves a close relationship, such as with a family member or friend.

Beyond that, some who do want to take action aren’t exactly sure how. What do you do when those nearest to you are furthest from the truth? What if your relatives are false converts? What if your fellow church members are false brothers? What if your neighbors are false teachers? Confronting a rising number of apostates in his generation, Jude wrote a letter long ago that provides guidance for us today.

The need for spiritual protection is as much as ever in our modern day. Pastors and parents must pursue that for themselves as well as for those under their care. My hope is that this book will equip you with the spiritual tools you need to accomplish just that. Stay safe out there.
